Frequently Asked Questions
What wax do we use?
Belles Hand Poured Candles are made using 100% pure rapeseed and coconut wax.
Coconut wax is a renewable, high yield crop, making it a great sustainable source, it burns cleaner and longer than other waxes on the market allowing you to enjoy your candle for longer!
Rapeseed oil is widely produced within the UK and Europe and is distinctive by its bright yellow colour. Our fragrance oils blend easily with this wax giving our candles an amazing scent throw.
What wicks do we use?
We use a cotton and linen wick, specially developed for vegetable waxes.
They are made from unbleached cotton, interwoven with a linen thread and are vegan friendly.
What fragrance oils do we use?
The fragrance oils used in our candles are made up of a blend of both natural plant based oils and synthetic compounds.
They are not tested on animals and are vegan friendly.
Why has my wick curled at the end?
This can sometimes happen if the wick is too long. Extinguish the flame and trim the wick to approximately 5mm then relight. Use a wick dipper tool to realign the wick and a wick trimmer to cut off the burnt wick.
Why has the surface of my candle cracked?
Sometimes our candles may crack on the surface after use – don’t worry, it’s just the natural wax. The candle is still perfectly good to burn.
Why isn’t my candle melting at the sides?
This is called tunnelling and to avoid it, burn the candle, on each use (but especially on first use) for long enough to allow the whole top layer of wax to melt evenly.
What size candles do you make?
All our candles are available in a 180 ml amber glass jar.
We’re working on adding to our range and will keep you updated…
Can you make customised candle labels?
Yes we’ll happily make personalised labels – contact us for more information.
Can I reuse my candle jar?
Although we can’t reuse or refill your jar you can certainly re-purpose it.
Once you’ve finished burning your candle scrape away any remaining wax and wick. Use hot soapy water to clean away any residue and you’re good to go!
