Belles Candle Care and Safety

How to Safely Burn Your Belles Hand Poured Candle

We hope you enjoy your eco-friendly, hand-poured rapeseed and coconut wax candle as much as we enjoyed creating it in our Buckinghamshire workshop. To get the best performance, clean, even burn, maximum scent throw, and up to 30-35 hours of burn time, follow this simple candle care and safety guide.

Our candles use a natural wax blend for a cleaner burn with minimal soot. Proper care ensures safety and helps prevent issues like tunnelling or uneven burning.

Candle Burning Tips

For the perfect experience every time:

  • First Burn is Key: On your initial lighting, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the glass (full melt pool). This prevents tunnelling and ensures even burning in future uses.
  • Trim the Wick: Before each burn, trim the wick to 5mm. This promotes a steady flame and reduces soot.
  • Burn Time: Never burn for longer than 4 hours at a time to avoid overheating.
  • Stop Burning: Discontinue use when 5mm of wax remains at the bottom to prevent heat damage to the jar.
  • Extinguish Safely: Always snuff out the flame—do not blow it out—to avoid hot wax splatters.
  • Keep the Wax Pool Clear: Remove any matches, wick trimmings, or debris after extinguishing.

Candle Safety Instructions

Your safety is our top priority. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Burn on a level, heat-resistant surface away from draughts.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Leave at least 10cm between multiple burning candles.
  • Do not place near anything flammable (curtains, papers, etc.).

Belles Hand Poured Candles accepts no liability for damage or injury resulting from improper use.

About Natural Wax Appearance

The top of your candle may appear cracked, uneven, pitted, or frosted when cooled—this is completely normal! It’s a natural characteristic of our 100% rapeseed and coconut wax blend (known as “frosting” in natural waxes). It doesn’t affect burn quality, scent, or safety in any way.
